Edgewood

Edgewood, a charming residential community nestled along the shores of some of Central Florida's most scenic lakes – Conway, Gatlin, Jennie Jewel, Jessamine, and Mary Jess. Originally situated on lands utilized for agriculture, the city's streets are adorned with majestic old oak trees, imparting a serene elegance to the surroundings.

In 1924, a group of nineteen residents from the community just north of Pine Castle gathered and voted to formally incorporate the area. This momentous decision materialized on April 24, 1924, with the town being christened Edgewood, perhaps inspired by its wooded location on the edge of Lake Conway. By 1960, Edgewood earned the designation of a bird sanctuary. The first official census in 1962 recorded a population of 436 residents in Edgewood.

The City Charter was submitted to the State in 1969, coinciding with the purchase of property on Larue Avenue for the construction of a town hall. In 1973, witnessing significant population growth, Edgewood elevated its status to become the City of Edgewood. Today, Edgewood is home to approximately 2,100 residents, with more than 350 flourishing businesses lining South Orange Avenue.
